Carr Fire: Our Neighbors Need Our Support

Carr Fire: Our neighbors need our support! 2 responders have been killed, more than 40,000 acres have burned!

Funds being collected for short, long-term relief efforts

The Shasta Regional Community Foundation has opened their Community Disaster Relief Fund in response to the fatal Carr Fire, and we are encouraging our donors and supporters to give to their fund to ensure the money gets to those who need it as quickly as possible.

This fund is now active to accept donations in response to fires and natural disasters that may affect the North State.  Donations will be directed for relief efforts for the active Carr Fire that began west of the Redding area. Shasta Regional Community Foundation has a credible history of helping regional nonprofits and organizations with the ability to deliver monetary assistance efficiently and effectively toward the recovery of communities over time.

How will the money be used?

  • The Community Foundation grants to nonprofit and government stakeholders to ensure that funds flow quickly to those most in need and establishes safeguards to secure proper distribution of the funds. This is a two-step process:
  1. Short-term support: funds for immediate relief will be made available as they become identified to large scale relief agencies to provide such support.
  2. Long-term support: funds for long-term relief will be distributed towards rebuilding and recovery efforts as identified by local collaborative efforts.

In response to the September 2014 Boles Fire in Weed, CA, the Community Foundation established the Community Disaster Relief Fund. The fund was started with a gift from the Stewardship Endowment Fund and provided assistance to the families, nonprofits and organizations impacted by the Boles Fire in Weed. As of September 2017, three years after the fire, all funds had been disbursed as recommended by the local Long Term Recovery Group grant review committee. Click HERE to see how the funds were expended.

The fund remains in place in order to provide future assistance tied to a specific event, should the need arise.
