Dr. Matthew Brown, CSU Chico Associate Professor of English, will speak at the Smith Museum of Anthropology’s monthly World Explorations Lecture Series from 4:00pm - 5:00 PM at the Chico Women’s Club. During the era of American slavery, free and enslaved sailors of African descent relayed essential information between ships and ports about the growing abolitionist movement. Dr. Brown hopes to shed some light on the Sailor’s Telegraph and talk about the ways sailor-writers shaped American literature.
