Black History Month Honored On Air

Our current administration maybe "downplaying" Black History Month but not the Mighty Zephyr!

"National Black History Month has its origins in 1915, when historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. Dr. Woodson selected the week in February that included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two key figures in the history of Black Americans." read more

BON MATIN! with Hondo - Sat, Feb 1st 7-9am

"Enjoy a history of the music of the Black Creoles from southwest Louisiana. From the Juré ring shout and field hollers to the LaLa House dance sound and the advent of Zydeco bands into the Clubs and Festivals." 

STRING THEORY with Rob - Sun, Feb 2nd 1-3pm

"This edition will feature music by a variety of Black string musicians including George Benson, Wes Montgomery, and Charlie Christian."

FACE THE MUSIC with Tere & Shelby - Every Thursday night in February 7:30-10pm

"We’re playing music by black artists all month long! Call us while we’re in the studio with your recommendations! We play all women and non-binary artist. Let us know who we need to play!"

SWING CITY with Steph - Sat, Feb 8th 3-4pm

"Black Swing Bands and Musicians will be the focus! Of course, every Swing City episode includes, in fact is dependent upon, the Black musicians who created and dominated the sounds of swing and jazz of the big band era."

ONE WORLD MUSIC with Diana - Wed Feb 12th 12:30-3pm

"I'll be interviewing the Black Student Union members who put on this year's Victory in Unity event at the BMU. The interview will be Wed. Feb. 12th at 1pm."

ZEPHYR SOUL STEW with Tim G - Tuesday, Feb 25th 7:30-10pm

"This episode features the radio history of blacks in America, i.e. early black programmed stations (WDIA in Memphis); first black owned station (WERD Atlanta) and a lot more."

THE REAL ISSUE with Sue - Every Wednesday 6-7pm

"A variety of Black History Month topics will be discussed. Stay Tuned for topic & guest details."
