On American Pastimes there's some Chico nostalgia when Kate Wolf name-drops Sundance Records and Tower Records and gets startled by a train whistle on Main Street. Early Tom Rush recordings are heard as well as contemporary songwriters Dana Cooper and Kim Beggs. From the 1920's we hear The Hickory Nuts and E.E. Hack's String Band. The 1960's are represented by California folkies and string bands. Kalimba Dan jams with the Butte County Ramblers. And then lots of contemporary bluegrass and string band musicians to kick up the dust: Corn Potatoe String Band, Big Possum String Band, Foghorn String Band and the Highwoods & Freight Hoppers, just to name a few!
